Hormones and Your Skin
Hormones and Your Skin: Why We Look Beneath the Surface
"I've changed nothing in my routine, and my skin still looks different." We hear some version of that every week. Sometimes the answer is in the treatment room. Sometimes it's underneath it.
Can hormones change how your skin looks?
Yes. Shifts in estrogen, thyroid function, and nutrient levels can show up as thinner-looking skin, changes in hair, and that sense of not looking like yourself. Research on menopausal skin, for example, links collagen loss more closely to years since menopause than to age alone. That's why we look at the full picture.
What patients tell us
The concerns that bring people in often overlap: skin that looks thinner or drier than it used to, hair that isn't as full, results from treatments that don't seem to last the way they once did, and a general sense of feeling "off." Those are real experiences, and they deserve more than a quick answer.
Aesthetic treatments can do a lot for how your skin looks. They aren't designed to answer questions about what's happening inside your body. That's a different kind of care, and it's why we partner with someone who provides it.
Outside in, inside out
MPWR focuses on how you look and feel from the outside in: injectables, skin treatments, and plans built around your goals. Rhiza Wellness, led by Kaitlyn Petrakis, NP, focuses on the inside out: hormones, thyroid health, and nutrient and vitamin levels, with an unhurried, in-depth approach for women and men.
When both sides are working on the same goal, your plans support each other instead of running in isolation.
Why "root" matters
Rhiza comes from the Greek word for "root." The idea behind the practice is to find out why you feel the way you do instead of only treating what's in front of you. Every Rhiza plan starts with a thorough workup, and Kaitlyn takes the time to listen. Her practice is built on relationships, not volume, which is the same way we try to run MPWR.
Is Rhiza right for you?
Rhiza Wellness may be worth a conversation if you want a clinician who will take time with hormone, thyroid, or nutrient questions, or if you want general primary care from someone who looks deeper. Rhiza is private pay, with pricing published up front and no markup on medications.
If you're not sure where to start, mention it at your next MPWR visit. We're happy to talk through it.
