What Is a Good Faith Exam?
Pennsylvania’s State Board of Medicine sets “minimum standards of practice” that include taking an initial medical history and conducting a physical examination before prescribing or administering controlled substances or other prescription treatments. Who May Perform the Exam?
Only a physician (MD/DO), physician assistant, or nurse practitioner can conduct and sign off on a GFE; registered nurses may assist but cannot independently clear a patient for treatment.
