The 30-Minute Facial: What Dermaplaning Actually Does

Most people who've never had a professional facial are stuck on the same two questions: how long is this going to take, and is it going to be worth it.

Fair. An hour is a real commitment when you're fitting it between work and everything else, and a treatment you can't evaluate in advance is a hard first purchase.

The Glow & Go exists for exactly that hesitation. Thirty minutes, no downtime, and a visible difference you can judge for yourself before deciding whether you want to go further.

What dermaplaning is

A sterile surgical blade held at an angle against the skin, drawn across it in short passes. It removes the layer of dead surface cells and the fine vellus hair — peach fuzz — sitting on top of them.

It's painless. There's no numbing, no scraping sensation, no recovery. Most people describe it as feeling like nothing at all, which is disorienting given how much smoother the skin is afterward.

Two things happen. Makeup sits differently, because it's no longer catching on texture and fuzz. And the products you already own work better, because they're absorbing into skin instead of sitting on a layer of dead cells. That second effect lasts for weeks, not hours.

The hair question, answered properly

The most common thing we're asked, and the answer is no. Dermaplaning does not make hair grow back thicker, darker, or coarser.

Vellus hair and terminal hair are two different structures. Vellus hair is the fine, soft, unpigmented hair on the face; cutting it doesn't change the follicle, and it grows back exactly as it was. The "thicker" impression comes from shaving terminal hair — a coarse hair with a tapered end grows back with a blunt end, which feels different. That's not what's on your cheek.

If you're still uneasy about it, say so at your appointment. We'll do the Epicutis version instead, described below, and you'll get the same result by a different route.

What's in the appointment

A thorough cleanse, then dermaplaning across the face.

Targeted serums chosen for what your skin needs that day — antioxidant, brightening, or collagen-supporting.

Moisturizer and SPF to finish. The last step matters more after exfoliation than it does on an ordinary day.

The gentler version

If your skin is sensitive, reactive, or very dry, dermaplaning isn't the right tool — a compromised barrier doesn't need anything taken off it.

We offer Glow & Go built around the Epicutis lipid line instead: a warm oil cleanse, a soft enzyme exfoliation, and a Lipid Recovery Mask with cooling ice globes. Same thirty minutes, same glow, no blade. Tell us when you book or when you arrive and we'll adjust.

When to book it

Before an event. This is the single most common reason it's on the schedule. Makeup applies noticeably better on dermaplaned skin, which is why people book it two or three days before a wedding, a photo session, or anything they'll be photographed at.

Right before a tox appointment. Skin that's been exfoliated absorbs skincare more effectively afterward, and stacking the two visits saves you a trip. If you're already booked for neurotoxin or filler, ask about adding it.

As a first facial. It's the lowest-commitment way to find out what professional treatment does for your skin without spending an hour or $200 to learn it.

What it won't do

It's an exfoliation, not a correction. Thirty minutes of surface work won't resolve pigmentation, texture from acne scarring, or fine lines — those need microneedling or a chemical peel series, or the deeper facial protocols.

It also isn't a substitute for a routine. The glow lasts roughly two to three weeks, longer if you're using medical-grade skincare at home, shorter if you aren't.

We'll tell you at the appointment if what you actually want requires something else. Booking you into the wrong treatment costs us more than it gains.
